Joining Forces for a Good Cause

 
Action Serbia recently teamed up with the ‘Mixer Cultural Centre’ and ‘Save the Babies’ organisation, in a charity campaign to collect and distribute aid for the large numbers of refugees and immigrants from the Middle East and North Africa temporarily residing in Belgrade on route to Western Europe.

The event took place on a symbolic date, with August 5th standing as a Day of Remembrance for Serbian soldiers who lost their lives in the armed conflict in Croatia twenty years ago.

Action Serbia and ‘Save the Babies’ opted to focus on the most vulnerable refugees for this charity occasion, namely mothers with babies, supported by individual donations from citizens and volunteers. Aid in the form of personal hygiene wipes, soap, shampoo, diapers, sanitary napkins, as well as summer clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, water and non-perishable food were collected and distributed in Belgrade.

The Action team divided itself into two groups, one giving packages of aid directly on the spot where citizens were bringing their donations, while the other group went to nearby parks where refugees were accommodated, handing out aid to mothers with babies. The occasion raised the interest of both domestic media and international correspondents.
