EU Prize for Journalism Tributes Best Examples of Professional Journalism in Georgia

Action Georgia successfully organised the awards ceremony for the EU Prize for Journalism 2014 in Georgia for the third consecutive year, with an elegant event recently held at the Rustaveli National Theatre Grand Hall in Tbilisi.

Over 600 people, including the Vice-Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Manana Kobakhidze, the Ambassador of the European Union, Janos Herman, and the Spokesperson of European Union Monitoring Mission, Ann Vaessen, attended the occasion.

Preparations for the event began months earlier, with a strategic communications campaign focusing on Georgian media professionals from television, radio, print and web-based media. This year, over 100 professional journalists from across Georgia participated in the competition.

Simultaneously, Action increased the public’s interest in the awards by pairing the ceremony with a Gala concert featuring Soloist Anna Tifu (violin), accompanied by the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gianluca Marcianò.

Action Georgia also managed to massively increase visibility of the event by securing live broadcasting with the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB). One-to-one interviews were also facilitated for leading media with high-level political attendees. Abundant coverage was consequently generated across social media networks, in print and broadcast media.

Action Georgia has organised the awards ceremony for the European Union Delegation to Georgia since 2012, supporting the EU Prize for Journalism which acknowledges journalists who have reflected high standards of journalistic ethics and professionalism, promoting a deeper understanding of EU values.
