Stage dramatics recently gave children good reason to smile in Palestine with a fun-filled travelling theatre event entitled “Through Children’s Eyes”, organised by Action’s local experts on the ground as part of the European Union’s Partnership for Peace Programme.
The events, which sprung to life in local schools in Bethlehem, Ramallah, Hebron and Jericho, on January 22, 25, 28 and February 2nd respectively, were geared to students between the 5th and 9th grades. The activities were organised in cooperation with the Safar Theatre, local municipalities and village councils. The occasion aimed to familiarise youngsters with the concepts of diversity, understanding, negotiation, dialogue and democracy with the help of theatre.
The recent performances were filled with jokes, as hundreds of children had a great time laughing and taking in all the action. Following the theatre shows, students provided interpretations of the play in their own words and prepared drawings on the matter. These were then collected for inclusion in a small booklet along with the play’s script, photos of the activity, and a brief about the EU Partnership for Peace programme, to be distributed to Palestinian schools.
Action’s local partners ensured that all local media reported on the occasion, as journalists were invited to all the events, interviewing the actors, organisers and the children involved, while radio channels conducted live broadcasts from the venues.
