Action Serbia Successfully Kicks Off Europeana Campaign

The last few weeks have seen a surge of interest in ‘Europeana 1914-1918’ thanks to Action Serbia’s recent campaign, raising awareness about the initiative across the country.

With the ‘Europeana 1914-1918’ project aiming to collect material that relates to the Great War (1914-1918) and those involved in or affected by it, the aim is that of forming a great digital archive. To this aid, Action organised special collection days aptly named ‘Mobilization of Recollections’ at the Belgrade City Library on December 5 and 6, whereby locals were called upon to take items reflecting family memories from WW1, as well as personal stories relating to the period.

Following on from a successful press conference, the event saw a great number of citizens gravitate towards the occasion, with 366 items taken in to be digitalized and uploaded onto the Europeana website. Ongoing interest has meant the library is continuing to receive visitors for this special cause, keen to contribute to Europe’s WW1 heritage. Up next in the plans are collections days in Cacak and Novi Sad, which also promise to be widely received.
